So, I opted for a 17-35 f2.8-4 Tamron and have been very happy with it. However, after a couple months with it now I did find some need for the wide angle side in lower light situations, where the kit lens didn't cut it. Also, Tamron does have a $10 rebate on it right now, not that its much but hey it just makes it all the better.

When shooting my kids, I love the extra reach that it gives as the foot zoom always seemed to ruin the moment. I too rarely found myself using wide and verified it with exposureplot software. I do find in extreme low light it does tend to hunt a bit in AF but it has never been an issue for me. IQ is amazing at all ranges, especially stopped down. I went with the 28-75 and have been very happy.

Seems like the better option and covers more range with what lens I have already. The Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5235 transforms workflow from a series of individual processes to an integrated flow of shared information. I think I always seem to want to go towards the longer ends so I think I would really like the 28-75 and the extra reach. Now I think I'm leaning towards the 28-75 and keep the 18-55 kit lens for the wide end. Would like to hear from people about why I should go with either one over the other. Looks like the barrel extends on the 28-75 but does not in the Tamron 17-50 correct? Is that a problem for anybody that has this lens? or is it just the way it goes with the longer lens? I have read every review I can find about both lens and the only question I have is the Tamron 28-75 as good as the Tamron 17-50 seems to be. It would also help to not have a gap in coverage from 50 to 70 with what I currently have. So, I have been really looking at the Tamron 17-50 and think I have decided on that one but have also been looking at the Tamron 28-75 and thinking maybe I should get that one and then keep the kit lens and use that for wide angle and that would give me longer reach. Only time I use wide angle is in photos of a group of people and I don't do that often. Not totally sure I need anything wide angle. Looking to replace the kit lens with something better.
